粉絲二創作品中，小馬Derpy Hooves受歡迎，卻是粉絲推動的；這原來是一個疏忽，背景很後面有一匹眼睛被畫成沒對準的小馬，後來有人在網路上貼出這背景角色的二創繪圖，意外爆紅；製作團隊順勢讓Derpy藏在畫面裏，幾乎每集都有，有時還會從很奇怪的地方冒出來，讓觀眾來找她。
美國玩具企業龍頭之一的孩之寶（Habro），為了搶攻對手Mattel的芭比娃娃雄霸多年的小女孩玩具市場，在1983年推出一項新品硬塑料小馬，有大大的眼睛和可以梳理的尼龍鬃毛、尾巴，還可以在身上塗鴉的玩具系列。
2010年10月動畫卡通影集推出，高人氣帶動相關玩具、書籍、服裝、漫畫和其他收藏品等大賣，除了女童市場，還開發出青少年和中年男子等全新目標市場，孩之寶看到來自新彩虹小馬專營利潤增加。彩虹小馬G4在熱門貼圖留言板4chan上開始受到人們注意，紫悅與其它小馬的圖片及二創粉絲作品（Fan Art）大量出現，許多用戶愛上這個節目，與一批不喜歡這節目的用戶對抗，引發網路口水戰。
